The lingering crisis rocking the peace of Udu Kingdom in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State over a statement credited to the Ovie of Udu Kingdom tagging Oghior Community as stranger elements have been put to rest with a peaceful resolution of the matter following explanations by the Udu Traditional Council and a subsequent peace meeting where the issues were addressed and laid to rest with a communiqué issued detailing the articles of peace in the KIngdom.

Tempers arose in Oghior community sometime May 2021 following a statement allegedly made by the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, HRM Bar E.B.O Delekpe JP, in a comment concerning the boundary dispute between Oghior and Ukpiovwin Communities wherein the monarch was quoted to have described Oghior people as stranger elements in Udu resulting in sustained media war by Oghior community against the monarch and secession threats which had dominated the media for weeks.

Oghior community had vowed to go to court to contest the stranger tag, opt for a separate kingdom for themselves and denounce allegiance to the Udu monarch with unsavoury comments after petitioning the Governor of Delta State and the Commissioner of Police over possible breakdown of law and order in Udu.

But the Udu Traditional Council, the highest body of Kingmakers in Udu Kingdom, in a press release dated June 3, 2021 explained that the Udu Monarch never made such remarks tagging ‘’any community as stranger element in the Kingdom and Oghior was certainly not so called’’.

The Otota of Udu Kingdom, High Chief Sam Odibo, who signed the press release later invited the Oghior people for a meeting with High Chief William Riebelle and High Chief Luke Ogedegbe representing the Udu Traditional Council while Chief Robert Balance, Chief Wisdom Ghaghara, Deacon Nigeria Okorode, Comrade Joseph Yoregua, Pastor Freedom Ghaghara and Barr Moses Uchere representing Oghior community.

After four hours of deliberations at the meeting which held on Monday June 14, 2021 ‘’to find a lasting solution to the brewing crisis generated by a purported statement made by HRM the Ovie of Udu Kingdom on April 30, 2021 ascribing the tag of stranger elements to Oghior Community’’, a 5-point communiqué was issued as follows:

‘’That the meeting reaffirmed the earlier statement if the UTC discountenancing the tag of stranger elements on Oghior Community as there is no stranger elements in Udu.

‘’That UTC should facilitate an early resolution of the boundary dispute between Oghior and Ukpiovwin communities more so as this will lead to the early burial of the three sons of Oghior who died during the crisis

‘’That henceforth there should be no further media publications by both Oghior community and UTC on the issue.

‘’That Oghior has agreed to suspend going to court for 45 days to allow UTC to commence the process of settlement.

‘’Finally, we sincerely wish to commend the Udu Traditional Council and Oghior Community for maintaining the peace and standing for the unity of Udu Kingdom’’.

The communiqué which was signed by High Chief Sam Odibo for UTC and Chief Robert Balance for Oghior Community has been hailed by Oghior people and prominent Udu people as a way forward for peace and harmony in Udu Kingdom.

PTI Defends Its Reputation Against Misleading Sahara Media Report By Wilson Macaulay Effurun, Delta State July 12 2025 The Management of the prestigious Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has vehemently refuted a sensational and malicious report published by Sahara Reporters on July 10, 2025, which alleged that students of the foremost oil and gas institution study in “flooded classrooms and snake-infested hostels” despite a ₦39 billion budget. Describing the publication as “baseless, mischievous, and an orchestrated attempt to malign the integrity of the institution,” PTI Management said the report is not only factually inaccurate but also a deliberate attack on the hard-earned reputation and progress of the institution under its current leadership. In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the management declared: > “There are absolutely no flooded classrooms or snake-infested hostels within the Institute. These claims are complete fabrications devoid of any evidence or truth.” Management further challenged Sahara Reporters to produce any verifiable photographic or video proof to substantiate its claims. > “If such conditions exist as alleged, Sahara Reporters should have no difficulty presenting concrete evidence. Until then, their report remains a reckless misrepresentation aimed at misleading the public.” PTI clarified that all its lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and hostels are structurally sound, properly ventilated, electrically powered, and routinely maintained. The Institute prides itself on maintaining a safe and conducive academic environment for learning, innovation, and professional development in the oil and gas sector. The management in clear terms described the publication as the work of “unscrupulous elements seeking to sow discord and cast aspersions on the steady infrastructural development PTI has recorded in recent years.” As a center of excellence in petroleum training and manpower development, PTI has, under its current administration, seen remarkable transformation in terms of physical infrastructure, digital modernization, and student welfare programs. The Institute continues to attract local and international recognition for its cutting-edge research and high-impact training curriculum. While assuring stakeholders, parents, and the general public of its unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of its students, the management reiterated its call for responsible journalism and urged media practitioners to verify facts before rushing to publication. “We remain focused on our mandate and will not be distracted by smear campaigns designed to derail our progress.”
