The Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun Delta State as part
of the special events to mark the 3rd convocation ceremony is set to install His Royal Majesty , Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the Akarigbo
& Paramount Ruler of Remo land as the new Chancellor of the Petroleum University.
The convocation ceremony which is slated for Friday 17th - 18th Saturday June 2022 Will feature Engr Simbi Wabote (FNSE,FIPS) the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) as the Guest Speaker
with a titled theme: " Defining the Value of Local Content in Petroleum Education"

Vice Chancellor of Federal University
of Petroleum Resources Effurun Delta State who held a press briefing as a prelude to the 3rd convocation ceremony stated that a total number of
1409 students will be graduating,,made up of 24 first class,438 Second Class upper division,619 Second Class Lower Division and 120 Third Class respectively.
Engr (Prof) Akpofure Rim-Rukeh the Chief Executive/ Chancellor of the University disclosed during the media chat that this 3rd edition of the University graduation ceremony is
delibrately tinkered as a paradymn shift
from the past ones where convocation is based on double helix model of Government and University to embrace
the triple helix model of Government, the University and the key players in the Petroleum and Gas industry.
He stated further that, in line with the
new objective to bring the industries
on board, there will be a roundtable
where Petroleum industry experts Will be discussing a topic: " Facilitating a formidable industry , government and
academia partnership to foster energy
sector innovation" and " Energy transition:Offshore Asset Divestment by
l0Cs -what's is next for Nigerian indigenous companies and local content ."
According to Engr Prof Akpofure, the
key points highlighted above will be deeply looked into professionally and pragmatically to position the Petroleum industry in Nigeria in line with the reality of the moment and the challenges of tomorrow.
The academic Don pointed out
that, five prominent Nigerians that have contributed immensely to the growth of the nation's economy were also slated
for award of honourary doctorate of FUPRE .
The list of the awardees in the press release are Engr Rotimi Williams Ajileye ,a dynamic Chief Executive with a penchant for excellence, currently leading a team of
diverse professionals to create a niche
for Alpha lntegrated Energy Services
Limited in the oil and gas industry.
Second on the list is Mr Alfred lrabor Okoigun, the Group Managing Director of Arco Group Plc , next is Owen Omagiafo, President and Group
CEO of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria . We have also on the list Sir, Monday Jonh Onyeme and Engr Daniel Elizino
who have all proven their mettle as Worthy ambassador that merits the award.
Engr (Prof )Akpofure Rim-Rukeh explained during the press briefing
that when he assumed duty on May 4,2020 his first assignment was to quickly articulate and produce a
Blueprint for the "Accelerated Development of the University" to make FUPRE a globally connected Petroleum
University whose transformative research and teaching places the University at the forefront of leadership
and this vision is anchored on the tenets of academic excellence, increased funding, attraction of international Faculty and Students amongst others.
The FUPRE boss added that, within the
the past two years of his assumption of office, the university has made significant progress in the area of introduction of New Academic Programmes, Linkages añd affiliations with different Organizations,like Onose
Deep Oil and Gas Ltd Abuja,Weltec Research, Madewell, Water Research institute Kaduna etc,, FUPRE within this period became became a member of
the Education and Training Sectorial Working Group For the Nigerian Content Consultative Forum (NCCF) have a memorandum of understanding with the
University of Witwatersand , Johannesburg ,TLOG Trinidad Limited,etc
He continued saying : " In the area of infrastructural development, we have done much with the massive support of
TETFUND , Federal Government Capital Budget,and industry support, today as I speak we have completed School of Postgraduate Studies Building, College of Petroleum Management and Policy Studies Completed, 500 capacity University auditorium completed, lCT
Centre Completed , Three Storey A Administrive Building , ongoing, Students Hostel Complexes , ongoing,
University main Library Building ongoing
etc.
He stressed that though it is impossible
to exhaustively mention the numerous academic milestones achieved within the two years of his saddle on the seat
as the Vice Chancellor, he would like to
put it on record that :"The University
have recorded some special awards /Grants which include, Dr Otanocha Omonigho Benedict of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, who has been appointed as a UNESCO Chair on Advanced Manufacturing.
