His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has commended the laudable effort of the Management of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, (FUPRE) Effurun, Delta State.
The President also appreciated the Academic Board, particularly the Vice Chancellor, Engr. (Prof.) Akpofure Rim-Rukeh for effectively standing in the gap to make FUPRE a one place stop in the training and Provision of competent ManPower for the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
President Buhari who made this remark during the 3rd Convocation Ceremony
of the Petroleum University which was held yesterday Saturday 18th June 2022 at the varsity pavilion, stated that FUPRE have recorded numerous milestones since it's Inception in March 2007 as an initiative to train man-power for the sustainable promotion and advancement of knowledge for Petroleum education to sustain our oil and gas industry.
President Buhari who was ably represented by Chief Timpre Sylva, the Hon. Minster of State, for Petroleum Resources, stated that the Federal Government is aware of the speedy progress of FUPRE, noting that the good story about the school is a confirmation
of the hardworking nature of the work force and their ability to build capacity in line with the idea behind the formation of this unique institute.
Chief Timpre Sylva, the Hon. Minster of State, for Petroleum Resources, in his capacity as the visitor advised the FUPRE Management to maintain the uniqueness of the Petroleum Varsity and remain resolute in their pursuit of academic excellence especially in the area of research and capacity building.
Speaking further, he said “I am aware that FUPRE is attracting a great deal of development as an institute. As a Government we are ready to do more to help the school because history has shown that education is a key driver of development, and that is exactly what FUPRE is doing for the nation in the oil and gas sector of our national economy
and even beyond."
He stated further that “As FUPRE has demonstrated capacity to hold the fundamental objectives of the Petroleum varsity sacrosanct, and having shown that they have the ability to remain in the forefront of leadership in energy discovery, I therefore urge stakeholders across board to collaborate with this unique citadel of learning to commercialize their numerous
panted rights some of which are
on display at the convocation pavilion."
HRM Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, B.L, LLM, FCA, FBR, Torungbuwa II, Akarigbo And Paramount Ruler of Remo Land, who was earlier installed by the Visitor as the Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun Delta State, in his inaugural speech on behalf of the entire people of Remo Land and the traditional council thanked the visitor to the university, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari for founding him worthy for
this appointment as the Chancellor of the first Petroleum varsity in Africa and 6th in the world.
Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi in the
same vein appreciated Prof Anthony Gozie Anwuka, Pro - Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Engr (Prof) Akpofure Rim-Rukeh the Vice Chancellor ,the entire academic and non academic staff of the University
for the honour bestowed on him as the
newly installed Chancellor of this unique
citadel of learning.
The FUPRE new Chancellor and Paramount Ruler of Remo Land Pledged that as a caretaker of the University, he will do everything humanly possible within his power to leverage on Government support and other stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to take the University to the next level so as to ensure that the core mandate assigned to it is realize fully in
due course.

" on behalf of the Governing Council of
the University, I am delighted to specially welcome the Visitor, President Muhammadu Buhari,GCON, ably re-presented by His Excellency,the Hon Minister of State for Petroleum Resources ,Chief Timipre Sylva , distinguished members of the
Federal Legislative Arm here present, the host Governnor, His Excellency, Senator Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State for their esteemed presence.
He also appreciated and welcomed the Chancellor , HRM Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, Torungbuwa 11 Akarigbo and. Paramount Ruler of Remo Land, traditional rulers and other distinguished personalities to the suspicious occasion of FUPRE 3rd graduation ceremony.to witness the official release of the graduates into the society having been adequately prepared in character and learning to add value to their various professions.
Engr (Prof) Akpofure Rim-Rukeh the fourth substantive Vice Chancellor of
of FUPRE in his maiden convocation address hinted that on March 14th
this year 2022, the University attained a
signicant Milestone of 15th years of
her existence, a period within Which
outstanding progress worth celebrating has been made ,noting that, a total number of 1409 students graduated
with 24 First Class, 438 Second Class upper, 619 Second Class Lower and 120
Third Class degrees respectively.

" l wish to seize this opportunity to
reiterate the full commitment of the
Petroleum Varsity to the training of new
breed professional engineers and scientists and we Pride ourselves in equipping our students with the technical know-how and Leadership skills to thrive in the modern world."
According to Engr Prof Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, : "On May 4, 2020
when l assumed office in the middle of Covid -19, my first assignment was to quickly articulate and produce the Blueprint for the accelerated growth and development of the University
and my vision statement is "To make FUPRE a globally connected Petroleum Varsity whose transformative research and teaching places the University at the forefront of leadership in energy discoveries benefitting to the whole world.."
He explained that the above effort yielded the introduction of new academic program such as Petrochemical Engineering, Natural Gas
Engineering,Computer Engineering,
Civil Engineering, Environmental Policy and Regulation , Biological Technogy,Physics Instrumentation Technology
Petro Chemistry Technogy and Statistics Which have deepen and widened
the scope of our academic Prógràmmes
in our core area of specialization.
He pointed out that the University within
the two years of his tenure in office as the Vice Chancellor, FUPRE under his watch has made collaboration and
Partnerships , linkages and affiliations with various corporate organization, such as Onose Deep Oil &Gas Company Limited, Weltech Research Limited,TLOG Trinidad Limited etc to mention but few which are all playing
key roles to take FUPRE to a more enviable heights in line with the spirit and letter of the MOU guiding those collaborative arrangements.
Engr Prof Akpofure who gladly announced
that FUPRE currently have 18
Patent Rights call on industry players, manufacturers and other relevant bodies
across board to commercialize the
Patent Right available which include
Mechanical Cassava Harvester, Wicking Agent For crude oil absorption, Petroleum products Volume Estimator,
Pipeline Leak ldentifcation , lnspection
and Repair on ROV Platform etc.
Apart from HRM Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi the Akarigbo of Remo Land Who was installed as Chancellor
of FUPRE, Engr Rotimi Williams Ajileye,
Engr Alfred lrabor Okoigun , Owen Omogiafo ,Engr Daniel Elozino Omoyibo, Sir Monday John Omyeme made the
list of those honoured with the doctorate degree of honourary causa. of
FUPRE while Dr Mrs Seinye OB Lulubriggs , Engr Chibuike Lawrence Achigbu and others got the awards for excellence and integrity in corporate leadership.

Finally she said: "Inspite of the challenges, the bruises and the scars,
the honor of coming out today as products of FUPRE makes all
the rigors of the journey a worthwhile
experience."
