PTI in Partnership With Benel Energy Launches International Well Training Centre

The Petroleum Training lnstitute ( PTI) Effurun, Delta State in Partnership With Benel Energy Nigeria Limited, today Tuesday, 21st June 2022, launched the lnternational Well Control Training Centre in the Petroleum Training lnstitute.

The ground breaking opening ceremony which was held at the lfech Hall PTI Conference Centre Complex witnessed key players from the oil and gas industry with top PTI members of Academic Board Present.

 Dr Henry Adebowale Adimula the Principal/ Chief Executive Officer of PTI in his opening speech stated that the centre is opened by the burning desire of PTI to remain the centre of academic excellence and the hub of training personnel with the requisite knowledge and expertise to manage effectively the oil, gas and energy industry of Nigeria in particular and Africa in general.

Dr Adimula the PTI Chief Executive noted in his opening address: " Today, what we have done signifies that instead of Nigerians going outside the Country to spend their scarce earned Forex abroad, they can now access the same training here in PTI with equal opportunity to write the same examination they would have written any where in world as far as Well Control Management is concerned.

The PTI boss explained that before now, the major challenge has been due to the absence of the accreditation of the certifying body which is fundamentaly needed to accredit a local partner, a position which Benel Energy represents and perfectly fitted into in this partnership with PTI.

Dr Adimula the erudite academic Don further stated: Today, we have found a worthy partner in Benel Energy to create a centre where globally accredited Well Control Engineers will be trained and exported to the rest of the World .

Going down the memory lane he continued: " In the past 50 years of PTI existence , this unique citadel of learning has been and will remain the training hub and centre of manpower training and development in the oil , gas and energy industry.

Speaking further, he added: "This occasion without any iota of doubt is important and very strategic in view of the Public Private Partnership and collaboration with Benel Energy Resources with a view to creating an enabling environment from which we continue to harness our potentials and expand our horizon as the Centre of Excellence in the oil , gas and energy sector by offering in - depth trainings , accreditations and certifications in Drilling Well Control and an arsenal of Well Engineering Courses that are tailored to meet the ever increasing demands in the oil and gas industry ."

Continuing further, he remarked With emphasis saying:" Permit me to remind us that the Petroleum Training Institute ( PTI ) , the foremost oil and gas technological institution in Sub - Sahara Africa , was set up by enactment of ACT No 37 of 1972 , as amended by ACT No 2 of 1973 , and PTI CAP P16 of the laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 ; with the mandate to train Competent Technical Manpower for the Nigerian Oil & Gas and Allied Industries . "

 Dr Adimula declared: " This mandate, the institute has credibly delivered through a period spanning five ( 5 ) decades and today we are gathered to celebrate yet another millstone achievement which further underscores our reputation as a pacesetter , Pathfinder and trailblazer in the oil and gas sector ."

 He also emphasized that the objectives of the Institute as a hub for student's initiatives that helps to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship , innovation , creativity and social awareness by adequately providing them with the necessary resources to have a foothold within the industry among their contemporaries has remained an unbeatable record.

He stressed that : " PTI is still in the business of manpower training , we can boldly say that there is no oil company in Nigeria without a PTI product in its employ,so history beckons us today with Benel Energy Resources limited as we launch a globally accredited centre for lnternational Well Control Forum (IWCF) Programmes and certification ."

The Petroleum expert posited that there is hope that this synergy will boost our student's employability and competitiveness in the oil and gas industry , reduce over reliance of expensive foreign experts and develop local content capacity which the President Muhammadu Buhari Government is driving . 

Finally , he said :" Once again , I warmly welcome you to the Petroleum Training Institute ( PTI ) , where we pride ourselves as the 'Centre of Excellence' ,in the 50 golden years of meritorious service to Nigeria our dear country, he concluded."

Engr. Ochuko Erivwo the M.D/ CEO of Benel energy Nigeria limited in his presentation stated that Benel Energy is a knowledge based organization providing technical and innovative solution for the oil and gas industry.

According to Ochuko Erivwo the Benel Energy Chief Executive, the Group is basically a knowledge driven organization that provides technical and innovative solutions , Management, processing, value creation, training, development and certification of well control Engineers with globally acknowledge expertise in the gulf of Guinea and beyond.

He acknowledged during his presentation that P.T.I as a tested and trusted institute in the heart of the Petroleum and gas industry, without missing words is the best place to anchor a partnership such as we have done today, to continue to foster the duty of capacity building which the P.T.I is known for.

He disclosed that Benel Energy is an accredited member of the International Well Control Forum (lWCF) which implies Benel Energy is completely equipped to train Well Control Engineers according to global standard.

Dr. Musa Zagi, the Zonal Operation’s Controller, Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission, represented by Engr. Tom Seikibo, in his key remark thanked P.T.I and the Benel Group for the robust synergy, promising that they would avail themselves the rare opportunity provided for international expertise training in Well Control Engineering as a corporate body.

He called on Nigerians ,especially players in the oil and gas industry to come and explore the opportunities available in PTI in Well Control Engineering.

Principal officers of P.T.I that were present namely; Mr. Clement Siakpere Registrar, Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji, Director of Engineering, Pst. Mrs. Vera Orhobor, a departmental head and others who spoke extolled the visionary leadership qualíty of Dr. Henry Adimula the Principal/ Chief Executive Officers of P.T.I) for taking the bold initiative to partner with Benel in this strategic and robust initiative that will add value to the pursuit of excellence in line with the dream of the founding fathers of the Petroleum Institute.

The management in clear terms described the publication as the work of “unscrupulous elements seeking to sow discord and cast aspersions on the steady infrastructural development PTI has recorded in recent years.” As a center of excellence in petroleum training and manpower development, PTI has, under its current administration, seen remarkable transformation in terms of physical infrastructure, digital modernization, and student welfare programs.
