Federal Govt Ready To Reposition PTI As A Training Hub In Africa ---- Mrs Adaji Asmou Shehu , Director, MPR

Mrs   Adaji  Asmou  Shehu  , Director, Ministry of Petroleum Resources MPR 

has assured  Nigerians  that the federal government through various  relevant agencies  is ready and committed to reposition the Petroleum Training lnstitute (PTl )Effurun Delta State 

as a Training hub in sub Sahara Africa

in line with contemporary realities of our

time  ,to meet  current challenges of Oil, Gas and allied industries.


Mrs Adaji  Asmou Shehu made this remark at the Council Chambers of the Petroleum Training lnstitute Effurun yesterday on   Monday 20th , February 2023 in her capacity as the Lead Speaker of the PTI Repositioning Committee,( PRC) who visited the lnstitute on a facility tour to reposition the unique citadel of learning.


Mrs  Adaji Asmou Shehu , the Director, Ministry of Petroleum Resources (MPR) in her speech stated that the PTI Repositioning Committee (PRC )led by her  was on a facility tour of the lnstitute to Physically assess what is on ground and to take cognisance of what is needed to make the lnstitute more  relevant as a destination place for Manpower Training in Africa.


According to the visiting   MPR - Director, even though the regime of Presídent Muhammadu Buhari is almost winding up, the PTI Repositioning Committee is fully committed to the task of taking the necessary  steps

to engage all relevant stakeholders to ensure that PTI is properly positioned

to maintain the well known   acronym of Excellent Centre of Training to boost  our National Development effort as the giant of Africa.


Dr Henry Adimula, the Principal / Chief Executive Officer of PTI Effurun earlier in his welcome address described the PTI Repositioning Committee  visit

as a necessity because there is indeed  

 the need to reposition the lnstitute in line with Local Content Policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria.


Dr Henry Adimula ,the PTI boss in his statement  acknowledged that over the years the lnstitute in certain

areas has not been able to respond to the changing needs of Training in the light of contemporary realities, a development which led to the need to effect movement for change.


Adimula pointed out saying : "" The visit

of the PTI Repositioning Committee PRC,  today  to the lnstitute is a major 

step forward to see what we have and to ascertain what we need  to achieve the mandate of PTI remaining as s reference point of quality  manpower 

training not just in Nigeria but in sub sahara Africa."


He stressed in his speech that the PTI

Management is ready to do everything possible to achieve the dream of the repositioning exercise as encapsulated

in the working instrument of the Committee to meet the Training needs

of  the Petroleum and allied industries.


The PTI Chiéf Executive disclosed that before the coming of the PRC ,the Management of the lnstitute in collaboration with reputable and tested professional bodies and organizations did some internal realignments which upscaled the Training potential of the lnstitute in many  areas , with a laudable  example of  Nigeria Liquifeid and Natural Gas Company (NLNG), currently Training their technical staff  in PTI as a result of this conscious effort on the need for continuous improvement.


He added:" Amongst others, our collaborative effort also yielded positive result  in the Training of Dive Medics Technicians (DMT)  in Underwater  Welding and Cutting Operations in our Offshore Technology Centre ( OTEC) which is an attestation  to the fact that we can do more if  given

the  much needed support, he concluded."





 Details of the guided tour of training facilities includes the the PTI Demonstration Rig, Flow Station, All Petroleum and Gas tech  Laboratories,

Refinery Simulators in  Petroleum and Natural Gas Processing Department.




The Laboratories of Welding and Offshore Technology , Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,etc

were all slated for the assessment tour.


Other areas Which were designated for inspection as outlined  in the  itinary are the PTI Fire Academy , Skill Development Academy amongst others.


The list of the  members of the PTI Repositioning Committee  who embarked on the facility tour  visit includes Dr  Nunir Sirajo of PTDF,

Engr Sulaiman Sulaiman of NNPC Limited, Bello lshola, Head PPPMC,

Carol Ojukwu, Head, legal Department, Ministry of Petroleum Resources and Usman Dibal also of MPR.
