10th NASS: Atanomeyovwi extols Akpabio leadership

By Justice Iyasere

Honourable Commissioner representing the south-south region in the National Assembly Service Commission, Chief Francis Atanomeyovwi has described the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio as a thoroughbred political leader with the wisdom and right temperament for the business of the 10th National Assembly, calling on the people of the south-south and indeed all Nigerians to rally round the number 3 political leader in Nigeria.

In a statement shortly after a 2 day retreat for lawmakers of the 10th National Assembly on Fiscal policy and Tax Reforms in Akwa-Ibom state, the Delta-born Chief Atanomeyovwi extols the virtues of the Senate President, noting that with a man of Akpabio's experience at the head of the National Assembly, Nigerians should expect improved legislative inputs from the members for enthronement of good governance, peace and progress of the land.

He noted that having worked closely with Chief Godswill Akpabio for the past few months, he was sure that Nigeria was in safe hands as his leadership of the National Assembly will provide the needed impetus and support to promote the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

Chief Atanomeyovwi disclosed that since assumption of office as Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has approved workshops, seminar and different retreats for National Assembly members towards capacity building, and better understanding of the onerous duties on the shoulder of the NASS members.

He described Senator Akpabio as a senate president with a difference who has achieved a lot in the few months in office, stressing that with the way things were going, Nigerians should be sure of better days ahead.

"Akpabio's leadership of the National Assembly does not discriminate. All members are sure of their entitlements irrespective of party affiliation. Today, all National Assembly members are set to sign for their official SUV vehicles to enable them perform their duties effectively. Unlike what I hear happen at the Delta State House of Assembly where opposition lawmakers are being treated like trash. I salute Senator Godswill Akpabio for his kind disposition to all NASS stakeholders", Atanomeyovwi said.

He added that the challenges of the present time were but temporary as the Tinubu administration and Akpabio leadership of the 10th NASS were doing everything to change the narrative and build a better society for the good of ordinary Nigerians.

Atanomeyovwi also called on Christian leaders in the south-south and theI challenge the Christian Association of Nigeria to stand in the gap in fervent intercessory prayers for the Senate President so he could partner/collaborate with them for the success of the big task before him.

"Finally, I call on all political and christian leaders across Nigeria to rally round Senator Godswill Akpabio so he could succeed as the Senate President. We must shun every act and pull him down tendency that will not serve the interest of Nigeria. Akpabio must be supported by all men of goodwill for the stability of the NASS leadership, peace and development of Nigeria. Unstable leadership breeds resentment, instability, and unhealthy rivalry. Let us all rise up to support our illustrious son to succeed in this onerous National assignment", Atanomeyovwi added.

PTI Defends Its Reputation Against Misleading Sahara Media Report By Wilson Macaulay Effurun, Delta State July 12 2025 The Management of the prestigious Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has vehemently refuted a sensational and malicious report published by Sahara Reporters on July 10, 2025, which alleged that students of the foremost oil and gas institution study in “flooded classrooms and snake-infested hostels” despite a ₦39 billion budget. Describing the publication as “baseless, mischievous, and an orchestrated attempt to malign the integrity of the institution,” PTI Management said the report is not only factually inaccurate but also a deliberate attack on the hard-earned reputation and progress of the institution under its current leadership. In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the management declared: > “There are absolutely no flooded classrooms or snake-infested hostels within the Institute. These claims are complete fabrications devoid of any evidence or truth.” Management further challenged Sahara Reporters to produce any verifiable photographic or video proof to substantiate its claims. > “If such conditions exist as alleged, Sahara Reporters should have no difficulty presenting concrete evidence. Until then, their report remains a reckless misrepresentation aimed at misleading the public.” PTI clarified that all its lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and hostels are structurally sound, properly ventilated, electrically powered, and routinely maintained. The Institute prides itself on maintaining a safe and conducive academic environment for learning, innovation, and professional development in the oil and gas sector. The management in clear terms described the publication as the work of “unscrupulous elements seeking to sow discord and cast aspersions on the steady infrastructural development PTI has recorded in recent years.” As a center of excellence in petroleum training and manpower development, PTI has, under its current administration, seen remarkable transformation in terms of physical infrastructure, digital modernization, and student welfare programs. The Institute continues to attract local and international recognition for its cutting-edge research and high-impact training curriculum. While assuring stakeholders, parents, and the general public of its unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of its students, the management reiterated its call for responsible journalism and urged media practitioners to verify facts before rushing to publication. “We remain focused on our mandate and will not be distracted by smear campaigns designed to derail our progress.”
