By Wilson Macaulay

The leadership of Egbema Communities Peace Development and Humanitarian Rights Association has called on His Excellency, RT. Hon Francis Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor, Delta State, to compel the management of ENSERV/BGP-CNPCJV 1049 to obey the Local Content Act / PIA in order to maintain peace and industrial harmony in the ongoing Seismic operations in Egbema Communities with operational base at Koko town.

A tersely worded petition titled "A Call and Appeal for Your Good Office Quick Intervention To Save Our Souls (SOS’S) in Egbema Communities, " addressed to Governor Oborevwori and copied to the Director, DSS Delta State, DSS Koko, and the DPO Koko, signed by Comrade Mike Jonathan Kilete Tiemo, President, and Mr. Morris Anuwo, Acting General Secretary, made available to Daily Independent Newspaper, reads in part:

"We, the concerned bonafide indigenes, inhabitants, national leaders, and members of Egbema Communities Peace Development and Humanitarian Rights Association, wish to draw your good office's quick intervention to the above subject matter of vital and paramount issues of denial, neglect, deprivation, marginalization, ostracization, and injustice capable of erupting potential anarchy in Warri North in respect of ENSERV/BGP-CNPCJV 1049 ongoing Seismic operations in Egbema kingdom vicinity.

The Group, in their save our soul message to Governor Oborevwori and

other relevant offices pointed out, saying: "As our corporate tenants operating in our vicinity in line with the Local Content Act and the the PIA we demanded Provision of drilling contracts to be apportioned to indigenous contractors, Provision for survey contracts to be apportioned to indigenous contractors, Provision of licensed shooters/blasters and helpers,

supply of crew speed boats and other opportunities to be allocated to our host communities in the spirit and letter of the Local Content Act. as contained in our demands.

According to the Egbema Humanitarian Group, after they have explored and exhausted all known communication channels available to them to bring Enserv/BGP to a round table discussion, as law-abiding citizens, they decided to make this clarion call to the Governor on this thorny issue of denial for him to use his Executive fiat to prevail on Enserv/BGP to obey the laws regulating Seismic operation in the State regarding the

sixty percent employment , contract and supply quota of host communities.

The statement, which described the negative attitude of Enserv/BGP towards the Egbema Communities as the height of Corporate rascality, said: "Among other relevant requests, we demand compensation for environmental degradation and pollution by the application/use of explosive classified, called, and known as dynamites and detonators, which are massively used in Seismic operations with a wide potential degree of present and future effects, causes, and consequences to the community’s inhabitants and aquatic lives due to the hazardous effect of such operations.

The Group which urged and appeal to Governor Oborevwori to tackle the issue headlong in order to maintain peace ,tranquility, and justice said: "Your Excellency Sir, our ultimate concern is the fulfillment of Enserv/BGP obligations CSR in employment, youth/women empowerment, capacity building, human capital development, and community development which include award of contracts/supplies that will also strengthen bilateral relationship or ties between the company and its host communities or the operational vicinity."

The statement stressed that it is a taboo and great insult to the communities whereby only one non-indigenous contractor is given/handling the drilling of a massive spread of the Prospect or operation in flagrant disregard of the Local Content Act and disrespect to the host communities of Egbema kingdom.

Shedding more light on the situation on the ground, the Group disclosed that what the Enserv/BGP is doing now by deliberately putting the Egbema Communities aside who are the heir apparent of the Prospect

is creating a vacuum for tension which may likely cause crises if not properly handled.

The Egbema People, which expressed further displeasure over the cold attitude of Enserv/BGP to obey the Local content Act, said: "We are ready to embrace any truce to be brokered by our amiable Governor to give directive for a roundtable meeting to be held urgently so that both parties could be heard with all grey areas clarified for the benefit of all parties or stakeholders.

The statement expressed optimism in the capacity of Governor Oborevwori to broker a truce between the aggrieved Egbema Communities and the arrogant Enserv, which will not be permitted to operate in the Egbema Communities until the right thing is done for peace to reign.

In summation, they said: "Our open letter to the Governor is not a threat, but a pointer to a looming danger due to past ugly experience at Dababulobu Community which is avoidable because a stitch in time saves nine." The statement concluded.

PTI Defends Its Reputation Against Misleading Sahara Media Report By Wilson Macaulay Effurun, Delta State July 12 2025 The Management of the prestigious Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has vehemently refuted a sensational and malicious report published by Sahara Reporters on July 10, 2025, which alleged that students of the foremost oil and gas institution study in “flooded classrooms and snake-infested hostels” despite a ₦39 billion budget. Describing the publication as “baseless, mischievous, and an orchestrated attempt to malign the integrity of the institution,” PTI Management said the report is not only factually inaccurate but also a deliberate attack on the hard-earned reputation and progress of the institution under its current leadership. In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the management declared: > “There are absolutely no flooded classrooms or snake-infested hostels within the Institute. These claims are complete fabrications devoid of any evidence or truth.” Management further challenged Sahara Reporters to produce any verifiable photographic or video proof to substantiate its claims. > “If such conditions exist as alleged, Sahara Reporters should have no difficulty presenting concrete evidence. Until then, their report remains a reckless misrepresentation aimed at misleading the public.” PTI clarified that all its lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and hostels are structurally sound, properly ventilated, electrically powered, and routinely maintained. The Institute prides itself on maintaining a safe and conducive academic environment for learning, innovation, and professional development in the oil and gas sector. The management in clear terms described the publication as the work of “unscrupulous elements seeking to sow discord and cast aspersions on the steady infrastructural development PTI has recorded in recent years.” As a center of excellence in petroleum training and manpower development, PTI has, under its current administration, seen remarkable transformation in terms of physical infrastructure, digital modernization, and student welfare programs. The Institute continues to attract local and international recognition for its cutting-edge research and high-impact training curriculum. While assuring stakeholders, parents, and the general public of its unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of its students, the management reiterated its call for responsible journalism and urged media practitioners to verify facts before rushing to publication. “We remain focused on our mandate and will not be distracted by smear campaigns designed to derail our progress.”
