Banditry: Delta Gov't, Security Agencies flushing out criminals - Bureau Chief ...Says Gov Oborevwori focused on enhanced peace, security to boost investors inflow

Within the last one year of governor Sheriff Oborevwori's administration, Delta State Government, the State Command of the Nigerian Police and other security agencies recorded significant progress in the area of enhanced security by flushing out a reasonable number of criminal elements from Asaba, the state capital, and across the state.

Director General of Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Latimore Oghenesivbe, gave the hint during a radio interview on Tuesday, saying that government will continue to provide the necessary support to the police and other security agencies, so as to further enhance their operational capabilities.

He said local vigilantes and hunters operations within their localities and communities have been activated across the 25 local government areas of the state, to effectively complement conventional security operatives, while assuring farmers and the travelling public that the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, will continue to give priority attention to a safe and secured Delta.

Dr Oghenesivbe further stated that Delta State is not listed, and will not be listed as one of the red zones of banditry and kidnapping in Nigeria, pointing out that apart from few  reported cases of security breaches in some communities, and occasionally along the East West Road, Delta State remain one of the safest state for investment in Nigeria.

He appealed to members of the opposition political parties and their proxies in the social media space to desist from raising false alarm over nonexistent security breaches, as can be seen from alleged cases of rapid kidnapping in some communities, and along the East West Road without disclosing the identities of victims.

"Delta State is very safe for Investments. The state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, is committed to consistently protect life and property in line with his constitutional mandate .

"The state government has performed creditably well in providing logistics support and equipment to boost the operations of  security agencies in the state, and will do more to secure Delta.

"At the moment, our local bushes and forests  are being searched discreetly, and government is deploying result oriented strategies in this regard. Gradually and systematically, criminal elements and bandits shall be flushed out, Delta will be too hot for them to thrive.

"Delta State is a choice destination for Nigerians, from across the country, because of her economic potentials. We are hospitable people, however, the state government will not accommodate unrepentant criminal elements.

"Gov Sheriff Oborevwori will continue to do the needful to partner security agencies, local vigilantes and traditional hunters to patrol our forests, roads and identified red spots from time to time," Oghenesivbe assured.

PTI Defends Its Reputation Against Misleading Sahara Media Report By Wilson Macaulay Effurun, Delta State July 12 2025 The Management of the prestigious Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has vehemently refuted a sensational and malicious report published by Sahara Reporters on July 10, 2025, which alleged that students of the foremost oil and gas institution study in “flooded classrooms and snake-infested hostels” despite a ₦39 billion budget. Describing the publication as “baseless, mischievous, and an orchestrated attempt to malign the integrity of the institution,” PTI Management said the report is not only factually inaccurate but also a deliberate attack on the hard-earned reputation and progress of the institution under its current leadership. In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the management declared: > “There are absolutely no flooded classrooms or snake-infested hostels within the Institute. These claims are complete fabrications devoid of any evidence or truth.” Management further challenged Sahara Reporters to produce any verifiable photographic or video proof to substantiate its claims. > “If such conditions exist as alleged, Sahara Reporters should have no difficulty presenting concrete evidence. Until then, their report remains a reckless misrepresentation aimed at misleading the public.” PTI clarified that all its lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and hostels are structurally sound, properly ventilated, electrically powered, and routinely maintained. The Institute prides itself on maintaining a safe and conducive academic environment for learning, innovation, and professional development in the oil and gas sector. The management in clear terms described the publication as the work of “unscrupulous elements seeking to sow discord and cast aspersions on the steady infrastructural development PTI has recorded in recent years.” As a center of excellence in petroleum training and manpower development, PTI has, under its current administration, seen remarkable transformation in terms of physical infrastructure, digital modernization, and student welfare programs. The Institute continues to attract local and international recognition for its cutting-edge research and high-impact training curriculum. While assuring stakeholders, parents, and the general public of its unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of its students, the management reiterated its call for responsible journalism and urged media practitioners to verify facts before rushing to publication. “We remain focused on our mandate and will not be distracted by smear campaigns designed to derail our progress.”
