The Niger Delta Civil Liberty Organization (NDCLO) has issued a formal notice of intention to embark on a mass peaceful protest across the Niger Delta region. The organization expressed deep concern and frustration over the deteriorating living conditions in Nigeria, which they attribute to various adverse government policies and actions.

In a statement signed by Comrade Baiye Andaowei Briggs, the National Spokesman for NDCLO, the organization highlighted several critical issues afflicting Nigerians, including the high cost of living, rampant insecurity, and an extremely low standard of living. The NDCLO accused the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of being indifferent and unresponsive to the sufferings and demands of the populace.

"It has become commonplace that the anti-people policies of Your Excellency have worked untold hardship on the masses, and the Federal Government is overly lukewarm and unperturbed over the sufferings, yearnings and/or plights of Nigerians," the statement read.

The organization lamented the lack of efforts from the government to address these "deplorable and sorry situations," despite the continuous outcry from impoverished, defenseless, and vulnerable Nigerians. The NDCLO emphasized the urgency for the government to take immediate and decisive action to alleviate the hardships faced by citizens.

Citing Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), which guarantees the right to peaceful assembly and association, the NDCLO announced their plan to hold a peaceful protest. This protest aims to amplify the discontent and grievances of the people over the dire state of affairs in the country.

In their statement, the NDCLO outlined specific demands to the Federal Government, including

Immediate intervention in reducing the high cost of living.

Enhanced security measures to protect citizens.

Initiatives to improve the standard of living.

Directing oil companies to implement Chapter 3 of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act.

The NDCLO called on President Tinubu and the Federal Government to heed the cries of the people and take swift action to remedy the situation. The organization reiterated that the planned protest would be peaceful and in full compliance with constitutional provisions.

The Group stressed that NDCLO WILL MOBILIZE ALL ITS STRUCTURES IN THE REGION TO JOIN THE AUGUST 1ST NATION WIDE PROTEST.

The announcement of this protest marks a significant escalation in the ongoing tensions between the citizens of the Niger Delta and the Federal Government. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to these demands and whether any tangible changes will be made to address the pressing issues raised by the NDCLO.

The planned protest by the NDCLO underscores the growing dissatisfaction among Nigerians and highlights the urgent need for the government to address the socioeconomic challenges facing the nation.

PTI Defends Its Reputation Against Misleading Sahara Media Report By Wilson Macaulay Effurun, Delta State July 12 2025 The Management of the prestigious Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has vehemently refuted a sensational and malicious report published by Sahara Reporters on July 10, 2025, which alleged that students of the foremost oil and gas institution study in “flooded classrooms and snake-infested hostels” despite a ₦39 billion budget. Describing the publication as “baseless, mischievous, and an orchestrated attempt to malign the integrity of the institution,” PTI Management said the report is not only factually inaccurate but also a deliberate attack on the hard-earned reputation and progress of the institution under its current leadership. In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the management declared: > “There are absolutely no flooded classrooms or snake-infested hostels within the Institute. These claims are complete fabrications devoid of any evidence or truth.” Management further challenged Sahara Reporters to produce any verifiable photographic or video proof to substantiate its claims. > “If such conditions exist as alleged, Sahara Reporters should have no difficulty presenting concrete evidence. Until then, their report remains a reckless misrepresentation aimed at misleading the public.” PTI clarified that all its lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and hostels are structurally sound, properly ventilated, electrically powered, and routinely maintained. The Institute prides itself on maintaining a safe and conducive academic environment for learning, innovation, and professional development in the oil and gas sector. The management in clear terms described the publication as the work of “unscrupulous elements seeking to sow discord and cast aspersions on the steady infrastructural development PTI has recorded in recent years.” As a center of excellence in petroleum training and manpower development, PTI has, under its current administration, seen remarkable transformation in terms of physical infrastructure, digital modernization, and student welfare programs. The Institute continues to attract local and international recognition for its cutting-edge research and high-impact training curriculum. While assuring stakeholders, parents, and the general public of its unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of its students, the management reiterated its call for responsible journalism and urged media practitioners to verify facts before rushing to publication. “We remain focused on our mandate and will not be distracted by smear campaigns designed to derail our progress.”
