Best Governor Award for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori: A Testament of Service Delivery to Deltans, Says Senator Amori

As Governor Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori of Delta State receives the highly coveted "This Day Newspaper Best Governor of the Year Award" Today Saturday, January 25, 2025, Senator Ighoyota Amori, the newly appointed Chief Adviser to the Governor, has described the honor as a fitting testament to Governor Oborevwori’s remarkable service delivery to the people of Delta State.

In a press statement released on Friday, Senator Amori, who is set to be sworn in as Chief Adviser to the Governor, lauded Oborevwori’s administration for its unparalleled strides in infrastructural development, economic empowerment and human capital investment. According to him, the award is not only a recognition of the governor’s achievements but also a reflection of his unwavering dedication to the well-being of Deltans.

A Governor Defined by Results

Senator Amori extolled Governor Oborevwori’s leadership qualities, describing him as a grassroots-oriented leader whose tenure has redefined governance in Delta State. He noted that Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda—which emphasizes Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security—has yielded transformative results across all sectors of the state’s economy.

“This award is a clear indication that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s leadership has brought tangible development to Delta State. From roads to healthcare, from agriculture to education, his administration has been purposeful, people-centered, and results-driven,” Amori stated.

Unprecedented Achievements Under the MORE Agenda.

Senator Amori enumerated some of Governor Oborevwori’s key achievements, which he said have positioned Delta State as a benchmark for governance in Nigeria:

Massive Infrastructural Development: The governor has overseen the construction and rehabilitation of over 500 kilometers of roads, bridges, and drainage systems across the state, including urban roads in Warri, Effurun, and Asaba, as well as rural roads to connect hard-to-reach communities.

Job and Wealth Creation: 

Through targeted empowerment programs, such as the Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Program (YAGEP)  Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Program (STEP), the  Delta Cares empowerment Program, thousands of youths have been equipped with skills and resources to become self-reliant.

Educational Transformation: 

Governor Oborevwori has prioritized education by upgrading schools, introducing free education at the primary and secondary levels, and awarding scholarships to indigent students. The refurbishment of technical colleges across the state has further bridged the gap between education and employment.

Health Sector Reforms: The administration has revamped primary healthcare centers and general hospitals, ensuring that quality healthcare services are accessible to all. The Delta State Health Insurance Scheme (DSHIS) has also been expanded, benefitting over 1.5 million people.

Enhanced Peace and Security: The governor’s inclusive governance style and partnership with security agencies and traditional rulers have fostered peace and stability across the state, enabling economic growth and attracting investors.
