WARRI

On the 29th of May, Delta State witnessed a significant transition in leadership when Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori was sworn in as the Executive Governor of the state. With a vision to elevate Delta to new heights of economic, social, and infrastructural development.

The amiable Governor Oborevwori shortly after assuming office, introduced the MORE Agenda—a governance blueprint centered on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.

With the Governor    spending less than  two years in office, it is evident that the MORE Agenda has become a transformative framework for unlocking the untapped potential of Delta State. Through visionary leadership, strategic partnerships, and people-oriented policies, the administration of His Excellency, RT Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has delivered remarkable progress across various sectors, cementing its commitment to building a Greater Delta.

Meaningful Development

 Redefining Infrastructure and Urban Growth

Governor Oborevwori’s administration has prioritized infrastructural development as the bedrock of economic growth. In a time span of less than two years, the state has witnessed an unprecedented wave of construction and rehabilitation projects, including roads, bridges, and urban renewal initiatives, courtesy of

Julius Berger a well known construction giant in Nigeria.

In urban centers such as Asaba and Warri,   Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration  has embarked on beautification projects, street lighting, and drainage systems to address the  teething perennial problems of flooding and to many enhance the aesthetic value of the state across the three senatorial districts.

The ongoing rehabilitation of key highways connecting Warri, Asaba, and Ughelli, is a demonstration  of the fact that the Governor is totally  committed to improving connectivity and reducing travel time for residents and businesses.

Many roads , which had been in a state of neglect for years, are now undergoing restoration an initiative  by the Oborevwori administration which  has attracted a lot of accolades. These infrastructural strides align with the Governor’s vision of creating a Delta that thrives on sustainable development and modern urban planning

Opportunities for All:

Empowering Youths, Women, and Entrepreneurs

One of the cornerstone of the MORE Agenda is its commitment to inclusivity and empowerment. Governor Oborevwori’s administration has rolled out a series of empowerment programs aimed at creating opportunities for youths, women, and small-scale entrepreneurs.

Worthy of note in the empowerment series is the Delta Cares Program, it has been awesome the way the program brought succour to do many Deltans across the 3 senatorial districts.

The Delta State Youth Entrepreneurship Program (DSYEP) is another  empowerment program which has trained and equipped over 5,000 young entrepreneurs with the skills and resources needed to establish thriving businesses. In addition, the Women Empowerment Scheme has provided grants, soft loans, and capacity-building workshops to women across the state, enabling them to contribute significantly to the local economy.

Agriculture, a key focus of the administration, has also seen a boost with a lot of empowerment going on

However, we strongly suggest, that the Delta State Ministry of Agriculture should  establish Farm Estates based on the principles of comparative advantage for crops like tomatoes, yam, cassava, and rice in various parts of the state. These projects will not only enhance food security but have also create thousands of direct and indirect

jobs for Deltans.

One other project we want the  administration’s of   Governor Oborevwori  to  achieve  is the establishment of Warri Port Committee, to be  vested with the responsibility to tackle   the revitalization of   the Warri Port. This initiative if implemented  will unlock the economic potential of the port and position Delta State as a major hub for maritime trade in Nigeria

Realistic Reforms:

Strengthening Governance and Institution

Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to realistic reforms is evident in the strides made in governance and institutional strengthening. The administration has implemented transparent budgeting processes, improved internally generated revenue (IGR), and fostered accountability in public service delivery, this indeed deserves  accolades from the public and relevant stakeholders

In the education sector, the administration has introduced reforms to improve the quality of teaching and learning in public schools. The Teachers’ Capacity Development Program, coupled with investments in digital learning tools, has ensured that Delta’s students are well-equipped to compete in the global knowledge economy.

Enhanced Peace and Security: Fostering Unity and Stability

Recognizing that development thrives in a peaceful environment, Governor Oborevwori has prioritized peacebuilding and security across the state. Through strategic engagement with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and community stakeholders, the administration has successfully managed conflicts and fostered unity among diverse ethnic groups.

The state’s partnership with security agencies has also yielded positive results, with a significant reduction in crime rates and the establishment of community policing initiatives to enhance grassroots security. Programs like the Delta Peace Corps have further empowered youths to serve as ambassadors of peace in their communities.

Feedback from Deltans: A Testament to Progress

The impact of Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda is not just evident in statistics but also in the voices of Deltans who have experienced positive changes in their lives.  farmers who  have benefited from the  various agricultural empowerment scheme shared their success stories. Market women in Effurun accessing loans to grow their businesses, the administration’s initiatives have touched every nook and cranny of the state.

Conclusion: A Legacy in the Making

As Governor Sheriff Oborevwori  will be marking his two years on the saddle, come May 29th 2025, his leadership clearly exemplifies the power of vision, commitment, and inclusivity. The MORE Agenda has proven to be more than a campaign promise—it is a roadmap for unlocking the limitless potential of Delta State.

Under his stewardship, Delta State is becoming a beacon of progress, unity, and development. With two more years to implement his transformative agenda,  before 2027 , which is election year , the feelers are clear that the Governor have  overwhelming support to go for second tenure and continue in the State House until 2031. Today we are already on our super high way in the  making of a Greater Delta that will stand as a model for other states to emulate.
