“This year’s convocation is particularly special,” said Engr. “We are deeply proud of our honorary degree recipients, whose contributions have helped shape Nigeria’s economic landscape,” said Rim-Rukeh. “Their dedication to innovation and excellence aligns with FUPRE’s mission of producing leaders who contribute positively to society.”
The convocation week will feature a range of exciting activities, kicking off on March 12 with the 1st FUPRE Research and Innovation Fair. The fair’s theme, “Innovation for Economic Growth,” will highlight the university’s growing focus on research and development. Dr. Olasupo Olusi, MD/CEO of the Bank of Industry, will deliver the keynote address.
On March 13, the FUPRE Career Fair 2025 will empower alumni for global career success, with Prof. Lawrence I. N. Ezemonye, Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Okada, as the guest speaker. The next day, March 14, will feature the Convocation/Founders’ Day Lecture, which will explore the theme “Universities Are Innovation Hubs: Are We There?” Dr. Obichi Obiajunwa, an expert in innovation and research commercialization, will lead the discussion.
The grand Convocation Ceremony will take place on March 15 at the Convocation Arena, where graduates will be awarded their degrees in front of an audience of family, friends, and dignitaries.
Rim-Rukeh expressed immense pride in FUPRE’s progress since its last convocation in 2022. “We have made tremendous strides in enhancing our academic offerings, research capabilities, and infrastructure,” he noted. “The establishment of new colleges in maritime, computing, and management ensures that we are providing education that meets the demands of a global economy.”
In the last two years, FUPRE has expanded its academic offerings with the creation of three new colleges: the College of Maritime and Offshore Studies, the College of Computing, and the College of Administration and Management. The university has also earned recognition for its research achievements, with 42 patents, including an international patent, and a strong global standing in sustainable energy research. According to the 2024 Times Higher Education Rankings, FUPRE is now in the top 5% of universities worldwide for sustainable energy research.
FUPRE’s infrastructure has also seen significant development, with completed projects such as the University Library and student hostels, as well as ongoing projects like the Post Graduate School Hostel. The university’s growth is further supported by key partnerships with industry giants such as Chevron and Shell, as well as substantial backing from the Delta State government.
“FUPRE’s growth is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders,” said Rim-Rukeh. “We are excited to continue this journey of excellence and remain dedicated to shaping the future of Nigeria’s academic landscape.”
As the university celebrates its graduates and achievements, FUPRE remains dedicated to shaping the future of Nigeria through excellence in education, research, and infrastructure development.
