EFFURUN — In a moment steeped in emotion, dignity, and profound intellectual reflection, Engr. Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), bid farewell to the institution he helped shape with the official launch of his memoir titled Transforming Vision to Reality. The grand event, which took place at the Jubilee Retreat and Conference Centre, stood as a testament to a remarkable era of leadership and an enduring legacy built on vision, resilience, and transformation.

The gathering was attended by a cross-section of distinguished personalities from academia, government, the oil and gas sector, traditional institutions, and the FUPRE community. It was not just a book launch—it was a celebration of a transformational journey led by a pioneer staff who rose through the ranks to occupy the university's highest office, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.

The book, Transforming Vision to Reality, is a vivid chronicle of Prof. Akpofure’s five-year tenure (2020–2025) as Vice Chancellor, a period marked by both daunting global challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and impressive institutional growth. In a passionate and intellectually rich review, Prof. Sunny Awhefeada described the memoir as “a chronicle of transformation” and “a manual for future academic administrators.” He praised its narrative structure, honesty, and relevance to the ongoing discourse around academic leadership and institutional development in Nigeria.

Prof. Akpofure’s administration at FUPRE is widely credited with several milestone achievements. Under his watch, the university witnessed an unprecedented expansion in infrastructure, academic programmes, research output, industry collaboration, and global visibility. From modern lecture halls and laboratories to improved staff welfare and the deepening of academic partnerships, his tenure was defined by purposeful leadership and strategic vision.

In his remarks, Prof. Akpofure expressed deep gratitude to his colleagues, students, and the university’s Governing Council for their unwavering support. He emphasized that the book was not merely a personal reflection, but a contribution to institutional memory and a guide for those who would take up the mantle of leadership. “This book is a mirror of what was possible, even in adversity. It is also a challenge to all who lead—to be courageous, consistent, and committed to excellence,” he said.

Chairing the event was Chief Brodricks Arigbodi, represented by Hon. Onoriode Arigbodi, who commended the outgoing Vice Chancellor for his integrity, diligence, and service to the nation through education. Other speakers echoed similar sentiments, noting that Prof. Akpofure’s impact extended far beyond physical structures—it touched minds, elevated standards, and inspired hope.

The launch of Transforming Vision to Reality was marked by medical check-ups , scholarly engagements, and a deep sense of appreciation. It was both a farewell and a new beginning—one that marks the transition from leadership to legacy.

As FUPRE turns a new page, the ink of Prof. Akpofure’s journey remains fresh—etched not only in the pages of a book but also in the institutional fabric of one of Nigeria’s most strategic universities. His story is a compelling reminder that leadership, when driven by purpose and vision, leaves footprints on the sands of time.

PTI Defends Its Reputation Against Misleading Sahara Media Report By Wilson Macaulay Effurun, Delta State July 12 2025 The Management of the prestigious Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has vehemently refuted a sensational and malicious report published by Sahara Reporters on July 10, 2025, which alleged that students of the foremost oil and gas institution study in “flooded classrooms and snake-infested hostels” despite a ₦39 billion budget. Describing the publication as “baseless, mischievous, and an orchestrated attempt to malign the integrity of the institution,” PTI Management said the report is not only factually inaccurate but also a deliberate attack on the hard-earned reputation and progress of the institution under its current leadership. In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the management declared: > “There are absolutely no flooded classrooms or snake-infested hostels within the Institute. These claims are complete fabrications devoid of any evidence or truth.” Management further challenged Sahara Reporters to produce any verifiable photographic or video proof to substantiate its claims. > “If such conditions exist as alleged, Sahara Reporters should have no difficulty presenting concrete evidence. Until then, their report remains a reckless misrepresentation aimed at misleading the public.” PTI clarified that all its lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and hostels are structurally sound, properly ventilated, electrically powered, and routinely maintained. The Institute prides itself on maintaining a safe and conducive academic environment for learning, innovation, and professional development in the oil and gas sector. The management in clear terms described the publication as the work of “unscrupulous elements seeking to sow discord and cast aspersions on the steady infrastructural development PTI has recorded in recent years.” As a center of excellence in petroleum training and manpower development, PTI has, under its current administration, seen remarkable transformation in terms of physical infrastructure, digital modernization, and student welfare programs. The Institute continues to attract local and international recognition for its cutting-edge research and high-impact training curriculum. While assuring stakeholders, parents, and the general public of its unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of its students, the management reiterated its call for responsible journalism and urged media practitioners to verify facts before rushing to publication. “We remain focused on our mandate and will not be distracted by smear campaigns designed to derail our progress.”
