SAPELE—Former President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Chief Engr. Joe Orode Omene, has congratulated former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, on the occasion of his 67th birthday anniversary, describing his performance while in office as “unassailable and yet to be matched.”

Chief Omene, in a goodwill message made available to Daily independent Newspaper, extolled the former governor for his people-oriented leadership style, developmental strides and inclusive governance that benefited all Deltans across ethnic and social lines.

He said: “I celebrate Chief James Onanefe Ibori at 67. Your tenure as Governor of Delta State remains a reference point in good governance and merit-based empowerment. You touched lives directly — from market women to artisans, students to roadside traders — everyone had a fair chance to grow under your watch.”

According to the UPU chieftain, Chief Ibori remains widely respected not only for his achievements in infrastructure and human capital development, but also for ensuring that appointments and empowerment schemes were extended to all, regardless of ethnicity or political connection.

> “For the first time in Delta State, people got empowered purely on merit. You did not limit opportunities to the privileged or politically connected. Your policies gave voice to the voiceless and empowered the grassroots meaningfully,” Omene added.

He further noted that Chief Ibori’s legacy continues to inspire hope and unity across Delta State and Nigeria, describing him as “a statesman and a father figure whose leadership style remains a model.”

Chief Ibori, who governed Delta State between 1999 and 2007, is fondly remembered for pioneering landmark projects, including road infrastructure, health facilities, educational reforms, and youth empowerment initiatives.

As the former governor clocks 67, tributes continue to pour in from political leaders, traditional rulers, and well-wishers within and outside the state.
