The Okpe Urhobos Should Not Contest Primaries With Governor Oborevwori — Hon. Comrade Francis Obule

By Wilson Macaulay

WARRI,

Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Political Matters, Hon. Comrade Francis Obule JP, has urged the political class of Okpe extraction in Delta Central Senatorial District to shun any plan of contesting the forthcoming 2027 gubernatorial primaries against Governor   Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori in APC or any other political Party.

Speaking with journalists in Warri during the passage rites of the mother of Dr. Toyin Agbolayah, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Development, Obule emphasized the importance of unity and political decorum, stressing that the Okpe Urhobos and indeed the Urhobo nation must rally behind Governor Oborevwori for his second term bid.

Drawing parallels from recent political trajectory, Obule noted that during the tenure of former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, no Itsekiri politician challenged him within his party. Similarly, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa enjoyed the loyalty of his Anioma kinsmen who refrained from contesting against him in both primary and general elections.

“A divided house cannot stand,” Obule declared. “The Okpe Urhobos in particular, and the Urhobos in general, should work in unity to deliver our illustrious son, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for a second term because his  performance has exceeded expectations, especially in the area of infrastructural development. The Governor has turned Delta State into a construction site. He is truly Mr. Project.”

Obule also made a passionate appeal to the immediate past Deputy Senate President, Barr. Ovie Omo-Agege, to heed the advice of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi by not challenging Oborevwori in the primaries. Instead, he urged Omo-Agege to join forces with the Governor to accelerate Delta State’s progress.

He recalled Omo-Agege’s statement during the last election campaign where he identified his maternal roots in Aghalokpe, an Okpe community, adding that with Oborevwori already at the helms of affairs, it was only natural for Omo-Agege to support his kinsman rather than oppose him considering the superlative performance of the MORE AGENDA.

> “Rather than firing salvos for a position already occupied by a competent brother from the Okpe Urhobo axis, it is wiser for Omo-Agege to collaborate with Governor Oborevwori in delivering greater dividends of democracy to our people. He can also be projected for federal appointment that will benefit Delta State as a whole,” Obule said.

He concluded by commending Governor Oborevwori’s even-handed development approach, noting that all three senatorial districts are benefitting proportionally under his administration.

According to Obule, the message is clear: the Okpe Urhobos and the broader Urhobo nation must embrace unity and consolidate behind Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as he continues to deliver good governance and transformative projects across Delta State.

PTI Defends Its Reputation Against Misleading Sahara Media Report By Wilson Macaulay Effurun, Delta State July 12 2025 The Management of the prestigious Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has vehemently refuted a sensational and malicious report published by Sahara Reporters on July 10, 2025, which alleged that students of the foremost oil and gas institution study in “flooded classrooms and snake-infested hostels” despite a ₦39 billion budget. Describing the publication as “baseless, mischievous, and an orchestrated attempt to malign the integrity of the institution,” PTI Management said the report is not only factually inaccurate but also a deliberate attack on the hard-earned reputation and progress of the institution under its current leadership. In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the management declared: > “There are absolutely no flooded classrooms or snake-infested hostels within the Institute. These claims are complete fabrications devoid of any evidence or truth.” Management further challenged Sahara Reporters to produce any verifiable photographic or video proof to substantiate its claims. > “If such conditions exist as alleged, Sahara Reporters should have no difficulty presenting concrete evidence. Until then, their report remains a reckless misrepresentation aimed at misleading the public.” PTI clarified that all its lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and hostels are structurally sound, properly ventilated, electrically powered, and routinely maintained. The Institute prides itself on maintaining a safe and conducive academic environment for learning, innovation, and professional development in the oil and gas sector. The management in clear terms described the publication as the work of “unscrupulous elements seeking to sow discord and cast aspersions on the steady infrastructural development PTI has recorded in recent years.” As a center of excellence in petroleum training and manpower development, PTI has, under its current administration, seen remarkable transformation in terms of physical infrastructure, digital modernization, and student welfare programs. The Institute continues to attract local and international recognition for its cutting-edge research and high-impact training curriculum. While assuring stakeholders, parents, and the general public of its unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of its students, the management reiterated its call for responsible journalism and urged media practitioners to verify facts before rushing to publication. “We remain focused on our mandate and will not be distracted by smear campaigns designed to derail our progress.”
