Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria(MOUN) and Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria(TOAN) have decried  Nigeria Police Force' intimidation and deprivation from collecting their check-off dues that due them in the state.

The bodies which made this known in a Press briefing in Warri appealed to the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Rt.Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene on the matter.

Speaking on behalf of

both bodies, the Deputy National President of MOUN, Comrade Julius Bobi and State Deputy Chairman of TOAN, Famous Ogbe Foghola said the men of Nigeria Police Force have continued to harass,  intimidate and deprive  them from collecting their check-off dues in Delta State.

According to them, both are registered and recognized trade Unions, adding that

while MOUN is an affiliate of Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), TOAN is an affiliate of Trade Union Congress(TUC).

They noted that both are backed and recognized by the law to operate in the country.

According to them, most of their men have been arrested and prosecuted by the police while carrying out their legitimate duties.

Speaking specifically, the Deputy Chairman of TOAN, Foghola alleged that the Chairman of Ndokwa West  Local Government Area who is still the Chairman of Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association(COMTOADS),  Chief Goddy Obi Nzete manipulates all Local Government Area Chairmen in the state especially that of Udu Council, Chief Vincent Oyibode and that Ughelli North to use the police to arbitrarily arrest and intimidate their people  on daily basis on the roads on their tickets of that the body is not recognized by the law.

According to him, in their(Local Government Area Chairmen)  Chief Nzete  has allegedly  put  them on monthly salary of N300,00 monthly while their Personal Assistants allegedly collect N150,00 on monthly basis.

His words:" Ndokwa West Local Government Chairmen who is also Chairman of COMTOADS. He now influences  all the local governments Chairmen and put them on monthly salary of N300,00 for every month..."

They therefore called on the Inspector General of Police, Delta State Commissioner of Police to call  their men to  order just as they appealed to Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene in the matter to enable them operate freely by collecting their check-off dues  by the  Unions  from their members.

While calling on their members to remain calm, they charged them to  be resolute and not succumb to any form of intimidation from the police to purchase tickets from COMTOADS.

They used the medium to thank the Governor Oborevwori for Unions'  Operation  and  his developmental  strides in the state just as they promised  to always work for him as they did in 2023, to  actualise his mandate for second tenure come 2027.

When contacted, the Chairman of Udu Council, Chief Vincent Oyibode said he is not  part of their Union whether Motorcycle or Tricycle. According to him, he has never chased any one with Police, adding Motorcycle or Tricycle does not bring revenue to the local government area.

He said, aside the Chairman of Ndokwa West who is their  Chairman, no other Council Chairmen is involved in their  matter.

His words:"  Can anybody point anyone  l have chased with  Police? This is very strange... Why would they call my name?  I am   not part  of it."

PTI Defends Its Reputation Against Misleading Sahara Media Report By Wilson Macaulay Effurun, Delta State July 12 2025 The Management of the prestigious Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has vehemently refuted a sensational and malicious report published by Sahara Reporters on July 10, 2025, which alleged that students of the foremost oil and gas institution study in “flooded classrooms and snake-infested hostels” despite a ₦39 billion budget. Describing the publication as “baseless, mischievous, and an orchestrated attempt to malign the integrity of the institution,” PTI Management said the report is not only factually inaccurate but also a deliberate attack on the hard-earned reputation and progress of the institution under its current leadership. In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the management declared: > “There are absolutely no flooded classrooms or snake-infested hostels within the Institute. These claims are complete fabrications devoid of any evidence or truth.” Management further challenged Sahara Reporters to produce any verifiable photographic or video proof to substantiate its claims. > “If such conditions exist as alleged, Sahara Reporters should have no difficulty presenting concrete evidence. Until then, their report remains a reckless misrepresentation aimed at misleading the public.” PTI clarified that all its lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and hostels are structurally sound, properly ventilated, electrically powered, and routinely maintained. The Institute prides itself on maintaining a safe and conducive academic environment for learning, innovation, and professional development in the oil and gas sector. The management in clear terms described the publication as the work of “unscrupulous elements seeking to sow discord and cast aspersions on the steady infrastructural development PTI has recorded in recent years.” As a center of excellence in petroleum training and manpower development, PTI has, under its current administration, seen remarkable transformation in terms of physical infrastructure, digital modernization, and student welfare programs. The Institute continues to attract local and international recognition for its cutting-edge research and high-impact training curriculum. While assuring stakeholders, parents, and the general public of its unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of its students, the management reiterated its call for responsible journalism and urged media practitioners to verify facts before rushing to publication. “We remain focused on our mandate and will not be distracted by smear campaigns designed to derail our progress.”
