First Lady Visit to Warri kingdom Has Brought More Federal Visibility and Stronger Collaboration with Delta State Government, Says Toghanrose, DESOPADEC Commissioner

The Commissioner representing Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality on the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Hon. Ofe Toghanrose Sunny, has declared that the recent visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Warri has significantly elevated federal visibility in Delta State and strengthened collaboration between the Federal Government and the state.

Speaking on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the Olu Palace during the historic visit, Toghanrose described the event as a “strategic bridge-building moment” that has positioned Warri and the broader Niger Delta region more prominently on the national development map. According to him, the presence of the First Lady sent a strong signal of renewed federal attention to the region’s socio-economic potential.

The DESOPADEC Commissioner, who was fully on ground throughout the visit, noted that the engagement went beyond ceremonial courtesies. He emphasized that the First Lady’s interactions with His  Majesty Atuwatse I11 the Olu of Warri,  the Governor His Excellency, RT Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, stakeholders, women groups and youth leaders reflected a deeper commitment to inclusive development and national cohesion.

Toghanrose stated that the visit has already begun to yield intangible dividends, particularly in fostering synergy between the Renewed Hope Initiative of the Presidency and the MORE AGENDA  of the Delta State Government. He expressed optimism that federal programmes targeting women empowerment, health, education and economic inclusion would gain stronger traction in Warri and other parts of the state.

“The visit has amplified Warri’s voice at the federal level,” he said. “It has drawn positive attention to our developmental needs and investment opportunities. We are confident that this renewed engagement will translate into concrete federal interventions that will benefit our people.”

He further commended Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for providing what he described as “visionary and strategic leadership” that continues to attract high-profile national engagements to the state. According to him, the seamless coordination between state officials and federal representatives during the visit underscored a spirit of cooperation that is vital for accelerated development.

Highlighting DESOPADEC’s mandate to drive infrastructure and human capital development in oil-producing communities, Toghanrose said the Commission stands ready to align with any federal initiatives that will complement its intervention programmes. He stressed that collaboration, rather than competition, remains the pathway to sustainable growth in the Niger Delta.

He concluded by urging residents of Warri and Delta State to leverage the heightened federal visibility to attract investment, promote peace and showcase the region’s vast economic potential. “This visit has opened a new chapter of partnership and opportunity. It is now our collective responsibility to build on the momentum for the lasting benefit of our people,” Toghanrose affirmed.

PTI Defends Its Reputation Against Misleading Sahara Media Report By Wilson Macaulay Effurun, Delta State July 12 2025 The Management of the prestigious Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has vehemently refuted a sensational and malicious report published by Sahara Reporters on July 10, 2025, which alleged that students of the foremost oil and gas institution study in “flooded classrooms and snake-infested hostels” despite a ₦39 billion budget. Describing the publication as “baseless, mischievous, and an orchestrated attempt to malign the integrity of the institution,” PTI Management said the report is not only factually inaccurate but also a deliberate attack on the hard-earned reputation and progress of the institution under its current leadership. In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the management declared: > “There are absolutely no flooded classrooms or snake-infested hostels within the Institute. These claims are complete fabrications devoid of any evidence or truth.” Management further challenged Sahara Reporters to produce any verifiable photographic or video proof to substantiate its claims. > “If such conditions exist as alleged, Sahara Reporters should have no difficulty presenting concrete evidence. Until then, their report remains a reckless misrepresentation aimed at misleading the public.” PTI clarified that all its lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and hostels are structurally sound, properly ventilated, electrically powered, and routinely maintained. The Institute prides itself on maintaining a safe and conducive academic environment for learning, innovation, and professional development in the oil and gas sector. The management in clear terms described the publication as the work of “unscrupulous elements seeking to sow discord and cast aspersions on the steady infrastructural development PTI has recorded in recent years.” As a center of excellence in petroleum training and manpower development, PTI has, under its current administration, seen remarkable transformation in terms of physical infrastructure, digital modernization, and student welfare programs.
