The Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Hon. Clement Ofovwi, popularly known as General Oloye, has passionately appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to retain the pipeline surveillance contract currently handled by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, citing the remarkable achievements recorded in the protection of Nigeria’s oil assets and the significant boost to the nation’s economy.

Speaking against the backdrop of recent security concerns and political tensions in parts of the country, Hon. Ofovwi emphasized that the engagement of Tantita under the leadership of Niger Delta leader Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has dramatically reduced oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and illegal refining activities across the Niger Delta region. According to him, the contract has restored confidence in Nigeria’s oil sector and strengthened national revenue.

The security aide noted that before the intervention of Tantita, crude oil theft had crippled production and deprived the country of billions of dollars in revenue. However, he explained that the strategic deployment of local intelligence networks and community-based surveillance has transformed the security architecture of oil facilities, leading to improved crude oil output and greater stability in the region.

Hon. Ofovwi further stressed that the success of Tantita’s operations demonstrates the power of community inclusion in national security. He observed that by engaging youths and stakeholders from oil-producing communities, the initiative has reduced restiveness, discouraged sabotage, and created employment opportunities that have positively impacted the socio-economic wellbeing of the Niger Delta.

He commended the administration of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for consistently supporting initiatives that promote peace, security, and economic stability in the region. According to him, the synergy between the state government, community leaders, and Tantita has helped sustain the fragile peace necessary for development.

General Oloye warned that any attempt to terminate or weaken the contract could reverse the gains already achieved in the fight against oil theft. He maintained that the Niger Delta remains a complex security environment that requires experienced operators who understand the terrain and possess the trust of the local communities.

The Special Assistant therefore urged President Tinubu and relevant federal authorities to renew and sustain the contract beyond its current tenure, noting that the continuity of the surveillance programme is crucial to safeguarding Nigeria’s critical oil infrastructure and maintaining the country’s economic recovery trajectory.

Hon. Ofovwi concluded by reaffirming the unwavering support of stakeholders in the Niger Delta for the Federal Government’s efforts to secure national assets, expressing optimism that President Tinubu would continue to prioritize policies that promote stability, protect oil facilities, and consolidate the progress already achieved through the engagement of Tantita Security Services.
